Going Vertigo, 2007

Gouache, conte, charcoal, ink, gold, collage.
66x50cm
Series shown at the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, Adelaide. Architectural mixed media drawings influenced by the building in Italy and Spain. On another level they are metaphorical and I analyze question about human isolation and meaninglessness, about freedom, existence and existential questions. The works are essentially psychological spaces, they connect with imagery of human journeying; stairways that do not always connect, doors that are not always open. Sold

Negotiating Doorways, 2007

Mixed media: conte, ink, gouache, charcoal, collage on pressure mounted paper
126x96cm framed
[Purchase for $2000]
Architecture as a metaphor provided an opportunity to work with what I describe as psychological space. The forms allow me to use stairways, tunnels, passages gates and doorways that are open or closed to explore possible meanings. It facilitates the imagery of journeying, and here just as the old buildings have been changed over time we may not be able to find which entrance to use.

This idea came as I looked at buildings of Catanya, Sicily.
